That is a painful reminder that Fed doesn’t directly drive mortgage rates — a common misconception. The Fed’s benchmark rate mainly affects short-term borrowing—like rates on credit cards, personal loans, and bank savings yields—and has a minor effect on long-term loans such as mortgages.
