Did you know Castle Rock almost became Poundcake Rock? Find out the full story at this free, family-friendly America 250 / Colorado 150 pop-up at Festival Park, celebrating 145 years of Castle Rock’s quirky history and the people who shaped it. Complimentary mini pound cakes are served while supplies last, alongside interactive storytelling displays, life-size historical cutouts, and hands-on exhibits bringing the town’s founding to life.

Parker Arts’ free Discovery Park Summer Concert Series rolls on with The Isaac Points Jakarta Band, a high-energy Denver party band bringing their irresistible mix of funk, soul, and crowd-favorite hits to the outdoor amphitheater. Spread a blanket, bring a picnic, and let the rhythm carry the evening under the Colorado sky.

MUSIC ON THE PATIO: SONS OF GENESIS

Every weekend this summer, the Lone Tree Golf Club & Hotel patio comes alive with free live music from local Colorado musicians, food and drink specials from the Lone Tree Grill, and an easy, scenic atmosphere that’s perfect for a Friday evening out. Sons of Genesis kicks off the weekend with a night of classic rock and good company — tables are available first-come, first-served.

PEDAL THE MOON

Castle Rock’s beloved annual twilight bike ride returns with a bonus outdoor movie at the finish line. Deck out your bike with lights and decorations, pedal approximately 6 miles along East Plum Creek Trail to Festival Park — with a glow-in-the-dark decorating station along the way — then arrive to a hot dog dinner, a MoonPie, and a screening of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial under the stars. All ages and ability levels welcome on mostly flat terrain.

COLORADO RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL: WINE AND REVELRY WEEKEND

“The Discovery of a good wine is increasingly better for mankind than the discovery of a new star,” said Leonardo Da Vinci. For this weekend dedicated to “The Nectar of the Gods” we intend to use it very well, indeed! Participate in the legendary Grape Stomp Competitions for fabulous prizes, on the rose stage at noon. FILM ON THE ROCKS: LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

Denver Film and the Colorado 150 Film Festival bring the beloved 20th anniversary classic Little Miss Sunshine to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for one special night under the stars. Before the film rolls, catch a pre-show performance from Denver’s own Wheelchair Sports Camp followed by headliner DeVotchKa — the Denver-born band whose score became synonymous with the film itself. DISCOVERY PARK SUMMER CONCERT: CALTUCKY

This one is a double treat — Parker Arts pairs Caltucky’s progressive bluegrass firepower with a free pre-show mini festival celebrating 15 years of the PACE Center, starting at 5 p.m. with face painting, a live chalk artist, balloon art, a caricature artist, a roaming magician, and giant bubbles. Caltucky then takes the stage at 6:30 p.m. with fiery banjo, soulful fiddle, rich harmonies, and jam-driven energy that bridges mountain roots and groove-heavy improvisation.

TALES FOR TAILS: READING TO HORSES

Humane Colorado invites students from 3rd grade through high school to practice their reading skills in the most heartwarming judgment-free zone imaginable — alongside the rescue horses at the Franktown shelter. The one-hour program includes a lesson about Humane Colorado, safety tips for interacting with equines, a brief tour, and 20–25 minutes of one-on-one reading time with the horses.
