JOE DOMBROWSKI

Recently named one of Variety Magazine’s top 10 comics to watch, Native Metro Detroiter, Joe Dombrowski took the world by storm in 2017 with a viral April Fools’ Day spelling test prank that landed him multiple appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Don’t get it twisted though! It takes at least 20 years to be an overnight sensation! Joe has been doing stand up comedy since he was eight years old in his third grade talent show. He’s never stopped! Since Joe’s rise to fame, he has been traveling the globe with his stand-up comedy which often highlights his marriage, road to fatherhood, and of course his time as a former elementary school teacher.
Joe has been featured as a headlining act at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, The New York comedy festival and the Netflix Is a Joke Fest. Joe is also the co-host of the wildly successful comedy/game show “My Straight Friends” which runs monthly at the world-famous Comedy Story in Los Angeles, CA and Emerald City Comedy Club in Seattle, WA. When he’s not getting creative on stages and screens, Joe spends his time in Seattle, producing his podcast “Social Studies” with Netflix reality star and teacher, Gaspare Randazzo.

HORSE RACING IN AURORA

Straight out of the gate, watching horse racing at the Bally’s Arapahoe Park honors this ancient sport—one of the oldest in history. Horse racing has remained unchanged since classical antiquity—by adding modern conveniences. Before you take your seat, stop by one of the concession stands. The full-service horse track puts a fresh spin on an old classic. The minimum age to place a wager is 18, and children ages 17 and under may enter the park for free as long as they are under parental guidance at all times.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Fall-O-Ween has returned for yet another spooktastic time! Southlands’ annual trick-or-treat event and fall festival warmly invites everyone, from the littlest ghouls to the strongest superheroes, to Main Street and Town Square for the peak of autumnal celebrations. From 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., show off your best costume, bring your biggest bag, and prepare yourself to get a spookily large amount of candy from participating Southlands retailers! Register your furry friend for a Howl-o-ween Dog Costume Contest to compete for this year’s most haunted hound prize to benefit the Aurora Police Foundation. And that’s not all! In this cult classic story, sweethearts Brad and Janet happen upon an eerie castle after their car breaks down during a rainstorm. The castle is home to the diabolical mad scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and his gang of henchmen. Rocky Horror Picture Show traditions like throwing rice and toast and blowing bubbles during the viewing will not be allowed. CARLOS MENCIA

Comedian Carlos Mencia is best known for his raw and unfiltered style of comedy, which he has showcased to great success on comedy stages, and in television shows and movies.
After finding success on the Los Angeles comedy circuit, Mencia was named International Comedy Grand Champion from Buscando Estrellas (the Latin version of Star Search), eventually landing on shows such as In Living Color, The Arsenio Hall Show, and An Evening at the Improv.

Mencia continued his journey up the comedy ladder by headlining stand-up tours and starring in stand-up TV specials. Comedy Central produced Mencia’s instant hit, MIND OF MENCIA, which propelled Mencia to the comedy elite.
He has recently gone back to his comedic roots on his No Hate No Fear comedy tour, sharing his newest material with smaller, more intimate audiences. As a comedian who finds the hilarious irony in both the day-to-day and the newsworthy events, Carlos is never lacking in material.

KAYTRANADA WITH JUSTICE

A pair of critically acclaimed electronic acts are sharing the bill at Ball Arena next week.
Kaytranada has been one of the most awarded Canadian electronic acts over the last decade, with a couple of Grammys, several Junos, and a Polaris Prize, among other accolades, for songs like 10%, Caution, and Twin Flame. Meanwhile, Justice was influential through the 2000s and early 2010s before going on hiatus of sorts, with their own collection of awards. The French duo has three Grammys along with several European awards; they have had hits like We Are Your Friends, D.A.N.C.E., and Neverender. Justice ended their hiatus in 2024 with the release of their fourth album, “Hyperdrama.” Kaytranada and Justice will take the stage Saturday.
